Safe Mode is a diagnostic startup option in macOS that loads only essential system software while disabling certain startup items and performing basic system checks. It can help identify software-related problems that may prevent your Mac from operating normally.

Determine whether your Mac uses:
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, or newer)
- Intel processor
The steps for entering Safe Mode differ depending on your Mac’s processor.

- Select your startup disk.
- Hold the Shift key.
- Click Continue in Safe Mode.

Intel-Based Macs
- Shut down your Mac.
- Turn it back on.
- Immediately press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when the login window appears.
