If your internet keeps dropping, pages won’t load, or your devices won’t connect, resetting your router is often the fastest fix. Here’s the correct way to reset your Wi-Fi router without losing your settings.
1. Try a Simple Power Cycle First
This solves most issues.
Steps:
• Unplug the router’s power cable
• Wait 10–15 seconds
• Plug it back in
• Wait 1–2 minutes for lights to stabilize
2. Check Your Modem (If You Have One)
If your modem and router are separate devices, reset both:
• Unplug the modem
• Wait 10 seconds
• Plug the modem back in
• Let it fully sync
• Then reset your router
3. Use the Router’s Reset Button (Factory Reset)
Only use this if:
• You forgot your password
• Settings are corrupted
• Nothing else works
Steps:
• Find the small RESET hole on the back
• Press and hold with a paperclip for 10 seconds
• The router will reboot and return to factory defaults
⚠️ Warning: This erases custom passwords, Wi-Fi names, and advanced settings.
4. Reconnect Your Devices
Once your Wi-Fi name appears again, reconnect your devices:
• Phones
• Laptops
• Smart home devices
